Launch, Migration, Fade: The Three Acts of Every Memecoin
Every memecoin runs the same script: launch, migration, fade. Knowing which act you're in is the whole game.
The Script Nobody Hands You
Most memecoin traders lose money not because they picked the wrong coin, but because they bought the wrong act. Every token that ever pumps and dumps follows roughly the same arc: launch, migration, fade. The chart looks chaotic. The lifecycle isn't. Learn the three phases and you stop treating a dying coin like it's about to be born.
Memecoins are extremely high risk. The overwhelming majority go to zero. This is education, not advice.
Act One: Launch
A token goes live. Liquidity gets seeded, the contract is deployed, and the earliest wallets buy at prices the public will never see again.
This is the phase where information asymmetry is at its ugliest. Devs, insiders, and bot clusters hold positions before a single post is written. Your job here isn't to outrace them — it's to read the room:
- Who bought first? Early-buyer concentration tells you how much supply is waiting to dump on you.
- Is the contract clean? Mint authority, freeze authority, tax logic, ownership. If you can't read it, you're the exit liquidity.
- Is there a real bid? Thin launch liquidity means one sell wipes the floor.
The launch phase is a speed game and you are probably not the fastest player at the table. That's fine. Most of the money in this phase is made by people who were already positioned before the token had a name.
Act Two: Migration
Migration — bonding curve completion, near-graduation, whatever your chain calls it — is when a token earns the right to be traded by a wider audience. It's also when the most predictable pattern in memecoins shows up.
The migration candle is often the top of the first chapter, not the beginning of a new one. Why? Because migration is the first moment the token has enough visibility to attract the crowd that the early buyers were waiting for. That crowd is the exit.
What to actually watch:
- Volume after migration vs. during. If volume collapses on the other side, the move is done.
- Holder growth quality. New wallets are meaningless if they're all 10-dollar buys.
- Smart money behavior. Are the wallets that led the launch still holding, or are they quietly distributing?
This is where tools matter. Watching holder curves, buy/sell pressure, and large-wallet activity on on GMGN (https://gmgn.uk, mirror at https://gmgn.fr) is more useful than staring at a green candle and hoping. Our reference on metrics that actually matter breaks down which numbers earn their place on your screen.
Act Three: Fade
Fade is not a crash. Fade is a slow bleed punctuated by fake recoveries. It's the phase where the community still posts, the chart still wiggles, and the liquidity quietly drains.
Signs you're in the fade:
- Volume trends down for days while price chops sideways.
- The same five accounts keep posting about it.
- "Community takeover" talk replaces product or narrative talk.
- Every bounce gets sold into faster than the last.
This is the phase where traders do the most damage to themselves, because fade looks like a discount. It isn't. A coin in fade isn't resting — it's finishing.
Where Traders Actually Get Hurt
Here's the uncomfortable part. The people who lose the most aren't the ones who bought at the top. They're the ones who bought in Act Three because someone told them it was still Act One.
If you're going to trade memecoins, build a rule set before you need it. Our rules section exists for exactly that reason. Write down what makes you enter, what makes you exit, and what makes you walk away. Then follow it when the chart is screaming at you.
How to Stay in the Loop Without Getting Farmed
You don't need 50 tabs. You need a small number of reliable signals and the discipline to ignore the rest.
Blackhat Empire runs public groups by chain — CHAT: BH GMGN BASE (@gmgnx_base), SOL (@gmgnx_solana), BSC (@gmgnx_bsc), and ROBINHOOD (@gmgnx_robin). The main alert channels are grouped by chain too, covering launches, near-graduation, volume, smart money, exits, and fills. The full directory lives at https://blackhat.finance/channels.html, and you can load everything into Telegram in one tap: https://t.me/addlist/1VUQZMhux_JhMzJk. More on how those channels are organized here.
The point isn't to chase every alert. It's to know which act you're watching before you click buy.
The Only Edge That Compounds
You will not out-launch the insiders. You will not out-migrate the bots. But you can learn to recognize fade while everyone else is still calling it early.
Read the lifecycle. Respect the lifecycle. Most coins go to zero — and knowing when they're going there is worth more than any call.
